Herbs for Arthritis Relief

Herbs for Arthritis Relief

There is no shortage of herbs for arthritis. It is true that they may not really be able to cure arthritis. They can however greatly reduce the pain and swelling that arthritis patients commonly suffer from. These herbs may be a good option for you if nothing else works. Among the possible herbal options are:

-Nettle Leaves- Stinging nettle is believed to be the natural counterpart of NSAIDs. The anti-inflammatory components of this herb reduce arthritis swelling. The herb also has boron which is a recommended nutrient for those with arthritis. Nettle can be eaten or used for tea.

-Devil’s Claw- Its name is actually derived from the appearance of its fruits that look much like claws. This is a herb found in Africa and is prized for its pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also believed to help improve the joint movement of arthritic patients.

-Ginger- If you love the taste of ginger, you will love it even more for its anti-inflammatory properties. It can also help reduce the sensation of pain. Those who are very fond of ginger often report that there seem to be no side effects associated with it. Ginger can be mixed with food or taken as tea.

-Celery- Another ingredient found in the kitchen that can be used for arthritis relief is celery. Early European settlers introduced this herb to the North American continent. The herb has anti-inflammatory substances and potassium which is beneficial for arthritis patients.

-Red Pepper- No herbs for arthritis list will be complete without red pepper. This is probably one of the most well known natural pain relievers that is useful even to those who do not have arthritis. Capsaicin which makes peppers taste hot can also help hamper the perception of pain. It also causes the release of more endorphins which are natural pain relievers in the body. Another compound in red peppers is salicylate which closely mimics aspirin.

-Alfalfa- The major contribution of this herb to arthritis relief is its nourishing nutrient content. It also serves to minimize the retention of fluid. It is recommended that arthritic patients take this herb in tea form. Alfalfa powder may increase arthritis symptoms.

-Angelica- One species of this herb is also popularly known as dong quai. This herb is used for both the relief of inflammation and arthritis pain. Like other herbs, this one can be taken in tea form.

A couple of other herbs have pain and inflammation reducing components. Those who take herbs seriously and properly can truly attest to the effectiveness of herbs. You should always remember though to always have safety in mind. Some herbs, when taken with some medicines can result in serious and dangerous side effects.

Herbs also have no standard dosages and mixtures. Different sources and herbal experts will have different recommendations. This means there is no guarantee that one specific dosage recommendation will work well for you.

Herbs should not be taken without your doctor’s advice. The safest way to take herbs for arthritis is with your doctor’s knowledge and consent.

Question by LiL’ Momma: Herbs for stress?
I am wanting to look into a herb or something natural to take for stress. I am a working mother of a 7 week old and work 45 + hrs a week, and I am still nursing and plan to for a while. Also I’m on Birth Control. I know that I can’t take St. Johns Wart because it will mess with my birth control pills and make them less effective. Natural Immunized Health Cure Herb

by coolhunting “tapas”

There are both Oriental and Western approaches as well that attempt to look at the unique energy of each herb. Herb plants have long been classified according to their heating and cooling, moistening and drying, relaxing and stimulating properties. The taste of an herb can be an indication of some of these properties. With such a basis one can soon learn that giving a hot stimulant in an acute inflammatory condition may aggravate symptoms. Giving a cooling, moistening herb when there is an abundance of mucus and much congestion may not help much. In the Western tradition herbs are also classified according to a number of other properties according to their action in the body: anti-spasmodic, diuretic, nervine, expectorant, etc.

Most people grow herb garden in their kitchen, to use as flavors in various foods and dishes they cook throughout the year. Many herb plants though, can also be used in salads or teas, and since many herb plants have very pleasant smells of their own, they can be used for general household air fresheners too.

In fact, one favorite herb garden design is known as a wagon wheel. Some people go out and find actual wagon wheels to do this with, and it does make the design more attractive.

Herb wherever planted, ought to be watered regularly and if not watered, it would become weaker and less likely to survive in cold temperatures. Herb can also adapt to hot climates, therefore excessive wet soil would decrease its adaptability to cold temperatures. In this case, provision of adequate soil is must, which is possible by planting it on a raised bed. Some important aspects to be considered while growing a herb further to grow food, are: placement in containers in the indoor garden, temperature requirements for herbs in the range of sixty to seventy degree and a bit more cool during the nights and maintain the temperatures using a humidifier. The condition of the soil is another important aspect. The roots of the herb may decay when kept indoors so keeping the soil well drained is pretty important. Light is required for preparing plant food, which is done through photosynthesis.

Arthritis Treatment Using Ayurvedic Herb Guggul

by Dancing Lemur

If you have any form of arthritis, I’m sure you’ve considered using lots of different options to ease your arthritis pain. Ayurveda is an ancient healing art that has been practiced in India for centuries and has naturally also been used for arthritis treatment.

Mukul Myrrh is a small, thorny plant which is common in India and guggul comes from the yellow-colored resin produced by the stem of the plant. Guggul is one of the most used herbs in Ayurvedic medicine. It is because it has amazing properties – it is anti-inflammatory, analgesic and is an immune enhancer. It is used for joint pain, arthritis and sciatica, among others.

This is not all, this wonder herb can reduce existing plaque in arteries and improve the body’s metabolic rate (therefore the fat burning activity) and improves the function of the thyroid. It also helps lower cholesterol.

It decreases the platelet ‘stickiness’ in the blood, thus reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke. This is why it is one of the best herbs used in Ayurveda to treat obesity and related disorders. This herb, however, should not be used during pregnancy as it promotes menstrual discharge and is a uterine stimulant.

Another Ayurvedic herb (well it’s a combination of 3) is Triphala and this is a good thing to take as well when you are using guggul as this supports the herb gugul and also helps to detox your body.

As arthritis thrives in an acid environment (which is why acid forming nutrition is counter-productive – coffee, for example), it is important to rid your body of unwanted toxins and then add foods to your diet that are alkaline forming. This includes lots of vegetables and most fruit.

Cut down on meat, coffee and alcohol. Smoking is very acid forming and should also be avoided.

You can also do research online to find out more information why Ayurveda can be a great help with arthritis treatment.

If you want to know how to find more relief from your arthritis, this is an healing system that has been used in India for centuries. Arthritis Treatment with Ayurveda can give you relief. For more resources go to Sandra’s website at arthritisreviews.com
