For a men hair loss is a common occurrence. And they have been trying out various treatment to reduce hair loss for amount of years. Factors that determine whether a person is a suitable candidate include age, hair colour, the nature of hair loss, and whether the hair type is straight or curly.

2. Minoxidil (Regaine) is found to be effective in about 25% of men with baldness on the crown. Applied twice a day in a cream the hair growth only occurs as long as it is used. Minoxidil was originally approved to treat high blood pressure. DHT, a byproduct of the male hormone testosterone, is believed to cause hair follicles to shrink and ultimately cease growing. Like Rogaine, Propecia controls hair loss, but does not cure it. There are some potentially serious side effects, however. Propecia can cause impotence, decreased sexual desire, and pain in the testicles.
