Herbs vs Prescription Drugs
Herbs vs Prescription Drugs
Would you take a pill if you knew that it was poison? Not knowingly, but every minute in the United States someone is taking a prescription drug and they do not know what is in it or what it could do to them.
Herbs have been around for thousands of years before prescription drugs were even used, and today over 50% of prescription drugs are derived from herbs. When I was 17 years old, I studied with my grandma who was an herbalist. She never went to doctors or took traditional medicine. You name a malady and she had an herb for it. She taught me that you use senna tea for regularity, and chamomile tea for calmness from stress and to sleep well, and many more. I learned which herbs were toxic and which ones were safe. I also collected many herbal books by different authors to learn more on my own.
Digitalis is derived from the foxglove plant and prescribed by doctors to strengthen the heart and regulate its beat and it is extremely poisonous. If someone was going to take it themselves for their heart, they would not know how much to take and it could be dangerous. A person who has studied herbs knows which ones are safe and which ones are poisonous and which ones you do not mix with others. That is why anyone who takes herbs should read up on them or consult an accredited herbalist, as you need to be informed how to take herbs safely.
Did you know that Prototype Ace inhibitor (used for high blood pressure pills) comes from snake venom? Do you know that many animal parts are used in prescription drugs? They also contain chemicals or unnatural substances which could alter our brain chemistry, hormones or mentality. Natural herbal remedies are derived from living plants and do not alter hormone balance. Did you know that death from prescription drug side effects is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States? With all the money that has gone to research on Cancer, why are people still losing their battle to Cancer every day. Heart bypass surgeries are performed on a regular basis on people who are in their forties, fifties and sixties, and many of them have had more than one.
There are still people who would rather consume conventional drugs because it works very fast, but many times with side effects, whereas herbs take time to work but without side effects. Which one would you choose? In my study of herbs, I have found several very good remedies that most people do not even know about.
Someday I wish that medical doctors would work side by side with naturopath doctors and offer the best of both fields, but I do not for see that happening for a a long time.
